My stereo, Denon model 1100 wont power completely on. The Power/Standby button will come on. The standby indicator is all that shows. No sound or powering up. Is the unit toast, or is there some hidden reset?

  1. Normally, a shorted speaker wire will not allow the unit to go from standby to FULL ON....

Check that first....even a single strand touching the opposite polarity can register on the unit, so check both ends, and any splices you have made....

If you don't find any problems with the wiring, you can disconnect them and verify that the problem is actually IN your AMP....

And while you have it disconnected, you might as well take it in to an electronics repair shop so they can correct the problem.....

And most likely, they'll either replace some resistors because you play it loudly and some of these "sensing" resistors have changed value, or the shutdown IC, along with some OUTPUT transistors may need replaced and RE-Aligned to zero current.....

Yeah, outputs can drift over time.....

And don't forget to take the remote with you, so they can do the internal adjustments....

  2. normally you can reset the unit by unplugging it and plugging it back in, however, if the unit is not powering up you might want to check and see if the fuse has blown, most modern stereo recievers require you to remove the cover to find the fuse, which is usually located on the main circuit board
