I have seen two sound modes in various Denon receivers that I want to understand - Stereo and Direct.
If I connect a CD player by analogue inputs to the receiver, I understand that 'Direct' simply acts as an amplifier mode and sound is the best (pure). I want to know what exactly happens if I use 'Stereo' mode for this ? Since the signal being input is already stereo, what does this do? When is the Stereo mode useful ? What are the differences in the two modes if the Stereo mode being used is with the tone controls off ?
(There are other modes too like 'Virtual', '5Ch/7Ch Stereo', DTS, 'Matrix' but I have no questions about these. I understand them.)
