Question:

Dental care without insurance...?

My fiance has had a tooth ache for the past week, he says "it doesn't hurt when he takes pain killers." (duh) but lets face it.. it's probably not going to fix itself and just being ignored, it'll only get worse. He has no dental insurance and dental care can be very pricey.. and we, of course, don't want to just go anywhere for it, because even if it cost us next to nothing, if it's not good dental care, it's a waste of money.

any sugguestions?

We're in upstate NY.

  1. see if there are any dental schools at some of the SUNY locations by you...im not sure where upstate you are but i know the dental schools offer free care..and the students are overseen and supevised by dentists..or call around and see if you can work out a payment plan with a dentist..some actually still do that

  2. There is a company called Care Credit that finances medical, dental, and veterinary care. The default interest rate is extremely high, but some care providers offer special rates. For instance, we needed a procedure, and the the doctor that we used arranged for us to get a six percent interest rate for the first 18 months.

If you visit the care credit site, they offer a list of providers in your area that accept this form of payment.

  3. I agree with everyone else that calling a local dental school to see if he can get treatment.  You may need to find a school that's not in your area...

You can also call some local offices, but that's hard also...

In the end, this is why universal health care is so important. Can you believe you live in a country where health care is not guaranteed unless you make enough money?

  4. call the county to ask where the county dental clinic is.  usually it is much discounted than regular dentists in the area.  also, are you in an area with an university or a dental school around?  often they will take patients for their students to practice on, but it is always supervised by a real dentist.  if not, call around and explain your situation to dentists, many will work with you or work out a payment plan.

  5. There is also the fee for dervice discount programs that are $19.95 per month for your entire household regardless of relation. This would be a good option, in order to get the work done by a good doctor and pay discounted fees. If you would like to know if the Dr. that you would like to go to participates, let me know your zip and I could find out for you. When you sign up you can use your discounts before you get your card. The dental plan also comes with Vision, pharmacy, and chiropractic discounts. Email me if you would like me to give you more information.

  6. call around...i used to work in a medical clinic and if asked we would give a good discount if they didn't have insurance but it had to be paid right then and there...many have payment plans with no interest
