Question:

Dental filling pain after 2 weeks and blue markings?

I got a dental filling two weeks ago. My dentist said it was deep and the root was exposing when he was drilling and filling the tooth. He actually even commented that "will have to watch it as it may fail sooner or later".

But the weird part is (its still hurting after 2 weeks) and the tooth filling has some blue marking in the filling in which my dentist said its some antibacterial stuff to make sure the tooth doesn't get infected.

The blue stuff reasoning sounds weird and the pain which does go away with tylenol is driving me nuts as I cannot chew with the tooth.

Just wondering if all is well and I need to wait a couple more weeks or is something wrong?

Worse yet did my dentist do something? Because sometimes I wonder..

  1. As the cavity was deep and you have still pain after the filling, it looks like that your tooth has become infected and now it needs root canal treatment. for more information on Root Canal Treatment you can visit the following link

  2. You need to go back to the dentist. The filling may be high and may need to be adjusted. That is important because a nerve that is already irritated will become moreso if the filling has not been adjusted properly. Further the blue marking may be the paper he uses to make adjustments at the end of the procedure and it may have stained the tooth colored filling (I am assuming it is tooth colored) however that may be one theory. Another theory may be the type of material he used may be a light blue color that is placed under the filling. I have never heard of an antibacterial to be permanently blue colored though.

I don't think he would have done anything to harm the tooth.  If you didn't have pain before and the cavity is removed,  it isn't unusal to  have pain after because the procedure has inflamed the nerve.

I recommend that you go back and check to see if the filling is high first, then if it isn't that then give it time for the nerve to calm down. Try not to drink/eat hot or cold for now, take some advil for pain and inflammation. If in time the tooth is getting worse then better then a root canal may  be necessary. Good Luck!
