I am taking the family to Tunisia very soon. We are going to Skanes.

Basically I would like to know if any of the family needs dental treatment when we are there will the Dentists be f the same level as in the UK.

Cleanliness to the same standard etc.

Will it be easy to find one will they be expensive and do they do root treatment etc.

Thankyou.

-The doctors here are very good as well. If you like, I could give you the name of my doctor. The hospital is up to date and very competent as well. My family goes to the private hospital (clinique) though. This is a personal choice as we like to have our personal doctors take care of because we know them rather than the hospital doctors. The Clinique is more expensive though: 35TND to be seen, vs. 10TND at the hospital.

-For mosquitoes, you do not have to worry too much because every year the government does it's best to rid the population of them with insecticides, and are generally successful. Mosquitoes here are not harmful or dangerous, and normally appear in the more humid regions (lakes, lagoons, by the beach, etc.).

If you are still worried about them, bring a bottle of insect repellent with you. The stores sell a device that you plug into an outlet that will keep them away, even if you have your doors or windows open. In my family we use the plug in device and are careful when we go out at night (that's when they are most active) and we don't get bitten. There is also a mat that you put down on the floor under where you sleep that keeps them away (this is sold in the pharmacies).

The pharmacies here sell insect repellent that works very well. The one that we use if we are going to be out in humid areas is called Mousticalm. If you do happen to get bit by a mosquitoe, you can buy a cream called Parfederm, and it works really well to calm the itching and burning (also works wonders if you get stung by a jelly fish).

-As for shopping and bargaining, as well as information on Sahara Beach, here is a link where I talked about those very things: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

Yes, the dentists here perform all types of work, are certified to the same standards in Europe, and are clean.

Compared to what you pay in the UK, dentists here are cheap. I cannot give you an exact price for root work (I have never had it done). When I go in to get my teeth fully cleaned, my dentist charges me 50TND total for top and bottom. She removes any and all plaque, tartar, and gives them a through cleaning.

My dentist is in the main city of Monastir - before you reach the centre ville, which would put her about 10 minutes from any hotels that are in the part of Skanes by the airport. Skanes is a part of Monastir. At one time they used to be separate cities, but with time and expansion they became combimed.

Here is the name and contact information for my dentist:

    Dr. Imene Mhalla Ben Romdhane

Imm. Borj Khefacha - 3eme Etage

    Ave de la Republic

    5000 Monastir

    TUNISIA

    Telephone: +216.73.505.904

Hope that helps, and if I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me anytime.

  2. i have had cosmetic dental work done, in the US it would have cost me 900$ to start a tooth, in Sousse it cost me 200$ a tooth! and they are very good. they use the highest ingredients and most have been trained in France. I went to a Dentist who all the tourist go to. i will try and find his number and post it later.
