Question:

Dentist prescribed 4 days worth of Amoxicillin, any problems?

I just went to have my wisdom tooth removed. Doc said the process has taken a little longer than she thought so she prescribed me 16 Amoxicillin, (4 per day).

I have read that antibiotics should be at least 10 days dosage. Should I be worried?

I have a mild cough with Phlegm.

Thank you in advance.

  1. Hello, Yes, your exactly right about the usual ten day course for taking an antibiotic...Four day's would in most cases not allow a complete reaction from the antibiotic. If you feel uncomfortable about contacting the Dentists about your concerns, call your medical doctor. You must do one or the other for your own protection. Good luck and I wish you well.

  2. I'd check that out with a medical doctor.  I've always heard that you should take a full 10 days of any antibiotic for any reason - including dental work.  That keeps the bad germs in your body from becoming antibiotic resistant.

  3. Hey, relax. Your dentist knows better. In your case the infection must not be much. So your dentist has prescribed antibiotic as a precautionary measure. 10 days antibiotic is taken in acute infection cases.
