I had pain on my tooth. The dentist suggested met go for root canal treatment. But even after using the local anesthesia, my canals and nerves were sensitive. It was very painful for me and the doctor could not perform the treatment. My dentist told me that I have to undergo that pain; otherwise he may need to extract the tooth. I am not sure what to do.

  1. Sometimes when there is an infection, the tooth cannot get numb (freeze)...then they will put you on an antibiotic until it calms down...that usually does the trick and it can then be numbed and worked on.

  2. you need an antibiotic, a root canal is done because the nerve is dying. the nerve died cause it got infected. its infected so the anesthetic won't  absorb. get a second opinion since your dentist doesn't have patience.

  3. I had an abscess in my lower jaw, had the root canal filling finished off last week after several visits to Dentist. I had to have an injection because the abscess hadn't entirely gone. Maybe you have an abscess or some infection in your gum - hence the pain.

  4. He should be able to give you more shots.  Maybe you should see another dentist if he can't do it properly......

  5. Could it be that you have an infection? I would get a 2nd opinion.

Also, you may not have taken to the freezing well, especially if it was in your lower teeth... they are harder to freeze.

Root canals should not be painful. You will have a weird sensation and MAYBE very slight discomfort, but that should be all.

I really would get a second opinion about your tooth.
