Denver Broncos 2011 regular season Review: It's Tebow! time - NFL Special Part III
Continued from Part II
Against Detroit
Denver Broncos were buzzing with the huge victory over the Miami Dolphins and were confident to bag another victory with the visit of Detroit Lions.
However, Tebow time did not help the Broncos this time as the quarterback was repeatedly sacked while his two turnovers were returned for touchdowns as the Lions emerged from the game with a mammoth 45-10 win.
Detroit remained in control throughout as quarterback Matthew Stafford comprehensively outperformed Tebow after throwing three touchdown passes in what turned out to be a comfortable win for the Lions.
The Broncos had only a 39-yard Matt Prater field goal and a 14-yard touchdown pass from Tim Tebow to Eric Decker at the eight minute mark to show for their effort.
It was a poor performance from both Denver and their quarterback who showed that he still had a lot to work on if he ever wanted to become a franchise quarterback.
At Oakland
The good times for Denver were just around the corner though.
The Broncos visited Oakland and in a wonderful overall performance defeated the Raiders 38-24 to secure just their third win of the season.
Tebow was brilliant from start to finish with two-touchdown passes while the Broncos running game finally performed as running back Willis McGahee rushed for two touchdowns including a sensational 60-yarder in the final seconds of the third quarter.
Eddie Royal’s 85-yard punt return was also one for the highlight reel as the Raiders defence had no answer to the Broncos hard hitting rushes.
Denver had raised its game and with Tebow at the centre of every offence it seemed that the Broncos had finally found a winning combination.
Coach John Fox had nothing but praise for his rookie quarterback who was starting to meet expectations.
"I thought he improved throwing the ball. I think he's always run the ball pretty effectively. He's very competitive by nature. You see evidence of that. Now it's just learning how to be an NFL quarterback. In my opinion he's gotten better each time out."
At Kansas
Denver Broncos easily rolled over a struggling Kansas City Chiefs side on the road in their next game as Tebow showcased his impressive running.
The quarterback gave his team a 7-0 lead with a wonderful seven-yard rush to the end-zone in the first quarter and Kicker Matt Prater’s 38-yard field goal in the second gave the Broncos a 10-0 lead at the end of the first half.
Kansas tried to mount a comeback in the third quarter as their quarterback Matt Cassel found Le’Ron McClain for a one-yard touchdown at the eight minute mark to make it 10-7.
However, Tebow was not going to sit back and watch.
The quarterback came out pumped up in the final quarter sending a huge 56-yard pass to receiver Eric Decker to give his team a 17-7 lead.
The Broncos won out 17-10 in the end and had now put together a string of consecutive wins for the first time in the season.
Against New York Jets
Tim Tebow once again proved that he is the man for late-game comebacks.
The New York Jets took a 13-10 lead with nine-minutes left in the fourth quarter and even though their quarterback Mark Sanchez did not have a good game the Jets were looking comfortable.
They did not count on Tebow’s brilliant running though.
The Broncos quarterback led his team to another wonderful comeback win with just a minute of play left.
Tebow rushed 20-yards into the Jets end-zone completing a 95-yard drive to lead Denver to a third straight win and a 17-13 victory.
Things were looking up for the Broncos and Tebow had proved to his critics that he is the real deal.
