Denver Broncos 2011 regular season Review: It's Tebow! time - NFL Special Part V
Continued from Part IV
Against New England
Tim Tebow had gotten the Broncos from 1-4 early in the season to the top of the AFC West division and into the wildcard round of the playoffs.
His heroics had been instrumental in the rise of Denver with some amazing performances as he became America’s favourite topic of discussion.
However, he in week 15 he faced one of the best quarterbacks to ever grace the NFL in Patriots Tom Brady.
Brady was mesmerising decimating the Broncos defence with his accurate passing while also showcasing his running ability to lead New England to an easy 41-23 win.
Tebow on the other hand was limited to two rushing touchdowns and for once could not mount an epic comeback bid.
At Buffalo
It seemed that Tim Tebow had run out of steam or lost some of his magic as Denver lost their second game in a row by a huge margin.
The Broncos defence was torn apart as the Bills defeated their AFC West rivals by a 40-14 margin to tie Denver atop the division.
Tebow only managed a rushing touchdown and a 17-yard passing touchdown to Daniel Fells in the third period.
Against Kansas
Denver Broncos and Tim Tebow ended the 2011 regular season on a three game losing streak after another disappointing defeat this time to Kansas City Chiefs by a 7-3 margin.
Both teams’ offences failed to perform with Dexter McCluster’s late first period touchdown being the only one in the game.
Against Pittsburgh (Playoff Wildcard round)
The Broncos had managed to keep their playoff spot even after losing their final three games.
Tim Tebow’s powers seemingly waned in the final games of the regular season and if Denver needed a big performance from their quarterback it was now.
The Broncos faced two time Super Bowl Champion Ben Roethlisberger and his Pittsburgh Steeler’s in the wildcard round.
This time though Tebow did not save the scoring till late as Denver built up a 20-6 lead at the end of the first half with the quarterback sending a 30-yard pass to Eddie Royal and following it up with an eight-yard rushing touchdown.
Roethlisberger though rallied his team and a 31-yard pass from the veteran quarterback in the three minutes of the fourth quarter equalised the scores at 23-23 to send the first playoff game into overtime since the introduction of the new rules.
Tebow got possession of the ball in overtime and the quarterback delivered one of the most stunning plays of the season.
The quarterback connected with receiver Demaryius Thomas on an 80-yard touchdown pass to secure an upset of the Steelers and send Denver into the divisional rounds against Tom Brady’s New England Patriots.
At New England
Tebow’s and Denver Broncos six game winning run in the regular season came to an end at the hands of Tom Brady.
Their playoff dreams also ended at the hands of the same quarterback as Brady passed for a record six-touchdowns in the playoff divisional round to rout the Broncos by 45-10.
Tebow looked clearly out of his depth as the Patriots put on a spectacle for the raucous home crowd at the Gillette Stadium.
The Broncos season was over and it was time to rebuild.
The future
Tim Tebow gave Denver fans hope and got them to dream of better times ahead.
Tebow’s performances supported by an offence tailored to his game will put in another run for the playoffs in the new season as the quarterback works on his throwing during the offseason.
It will be another heart pounding season from Denver in 2012-13 and frankly I can’t wait to see what Tebow will deliver.
