Denver Broncos’ Elvis Dumervil will not be charged with any offence in Miami case – NFL News
Defensive end Elvis Dumervil of Denver Broncos has been cleared of assault charge that was put against him.
Dumervil got the news from State Attorney’s office on Tuesday, August 08, 2012. He later confirmed the news and commented:
"It was a blessing, obviously. The investigators took the time and got the truth out. They did their due diligence and tried to get everything right. I've been confident all along and know I didn't do anything wrong. It was a matter of
being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and I'm just ready for football."
Dumervil was arrested last month after being charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
After getting stuck in traffic in Miami Beach Area, Dumervil had an argument with another driver after which he allegedly showed a weapon concealed in his waistband.
On the other hand, Dumervil always maintained hi innocence and claimed that he never did such a thing. He said:
"I never had a gun on me at all.”
Dumervil said after the arrest that did not have any weapon, while a gun was retrieved from the car he was driving. It was later confirmed that both the car and the weapon belonged to Dumervil’s brother.
Even though Dumervil is cleared of the charge, there is a possibility that he will face penalty from the league.
Broncos drafted Dumervil in fourth round of the 2006 draft. He had the highest number of sacks in the 2009 season.
In 2010 offseason, Dumervil signed a whopping six-year, $58 million contract. He got injured and was unable to play in the entire 2010 season.
Last season, he partnered with the National Football League (NFL) Defensive Rookie of the Year Von Miller and formed a deadly pass rushing combination.
Dumervil thinks that now he can focus on his game. He said:
"It's not what happens but how you respond to things. The type of person I am, how I've conducted myself since I've been here — I'm just ready to continue with my life."
