Denver Broncos Jason Hunter stabbed and hospitalised in Detroit – NFL News
Jason Hunter, defensive end for the Denver Broncos, was stabbed in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday April 27 and rushed to a local hospital.
His agent, Robert B. Walker, said that his wounds were minor and not life threatening.
The stabbing was confirmed by Officer Dan Donakowski but details about the location of the incident, the attacker, Hunter’s condition and the name of the hospital were not disclosed.
Police in Detroit said that Hunter’s girlfriend was taken into custody but refused to provide the name of the suspected attacker because of the ongoing investigation. A television station in Detroit claimed that Hunter was knifed in his left shoulder.
The Broncos did release a statement saying that the team was also investigating the incident and they only expressed their wishes that Hunter “makes a quick recovery.” To respect his privacy, the team did not make any more comments about the incident.
As of now, it is not known how the stabbing will affect Hunter’s career in the National Football League. His condition will be known soon since the doctors that treated Hunter are in contact with team doctors, according to Patrick Smyth, spokesman for the
Broncos.
Walker tweeted, "I've spoken to my client Jason Hunter and it's a very minor injury, just a few stitches. He'll be fine. We thank you for your prayers."
Hunter was undrafted in the 2006 NFL Draft out of Appalachian State University and later signed by the Green Bay Packers. He spent three seasons in Green Bay before going to the Detroit Lions in 2009. On August 20, 2010, Hunter was signed by the Broncos
and moved from defensive end to line-backer, saying, "They said I'm going to be a linebacker here. I've never played 'backer in my life, so this is going to be a huge challenge for me. I'm going to have to work hard every day and challenge myself."
This is the second stabbing and hospitalisation in a week. Just days ago Florida police said that Brandon Marshall, wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, was stabbed in the stomach with a kitchen knife by his wife.
The Broncos have had a lot of problems plaguing them in recent years. Their corner-back, Darrent Williams, was killed in a drive by shooting. Running-back Damien Nash also died after he suffered a heart attack and receiver Kenny McKinley committed suicide.
During the 2010 NFL season, D.J. Williams, line-backer for the Broncos, was demoted from team captain after he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol for the second time while corner-back Perrish Cox was charged with sexual assault. Just
weeks after the season ended, Laurence Maroney was arrested for firearm possession, as well as possession drugs.
