Denver Broncos LB Von Miller believes New York Jets QB Tim Tebow won't remain backup for long - NFL News
Quarterback, Tim Tebow’s arrival at the New York Jets had from the first day started speculation among the media of what role he would fulfil at the franchise.
The official story is that Tebow has been brought in as backup for quarterback, Mark Sanchez and will be part of a Jets Plan B.
However, not everyone believes that the 24-year-old will remain a backup for long and predictions are coming from all quarters that he will take over the starting role at the Jets in much the same way as he did last year at the Denver Broncos.
The Jets though remain adamant that the young quarterback will remain a backup and everyone from head coach, Rex Ryan, general manager, Mike Tannenbaum and owner, Woody Johnson have gone on record to state that Mark Sanchez is the starter and they have complete
confidence in the player’s abilities.
Tebow’s ex-teammate and Denver Broncos linebacker, Von Miller though believes it is just a matter of time before the 24-year-old takes over the starting role at his new team.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Miller said.
"I think everybody's mistaken if you think he's just going to go over there and be a Wildcat quarterback or a situational quarterback. The Tebow that I know is going ... to be able to compete for that starting job."
Tebow is no stranger to pressurising a stable starter into giving up his starting role.
Last year at Denver, Tebow was a backup early on in the season but after a 1-4 start by Kyle Orton he was handed the starting berth and in an epic turnaround notched up wins after wins to lead the Broncos to the playoffs and an American Football Conference
(AFC) West division title.
Miller was sad to see Tebow leave for the Jets and in an earlier interview said.
"It was surreal. We went from having our quarterback to not having our quarterback to having our quarterback. I'm happy that we got Peyton but unhappy that we got rid of Tim."
Tebow took part in the New York Jets workouts on Monday and is preparing for the new season as he looks to help the Jets get back into the playoffs.
