Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning shoots down myth that he did not want to play in NFC - NFL News
The one thing that kept many National Football Conference (NFC) teams out of the race for free agent quarterback Peyton Manning’s signature was his supposed aversion to playing in the same conference as his brother Eli.
However, that myth turned out to be deeply flawed as Manning in a radio interview refuted claims that he did not want to be in the NFC because of his brother.
“Well, that’s not true, because obviously when I was talking to San Francisco, they asked me that. And I wouldn’t have told them that I could possibly be interested if that were the case. Obviously I know that San Francisco is in the NFC.”
Well that myth got busted though it came too late for other teams who might have vied for his signature as the quarterback has since signed for the Denver Broncos.
Manning also went on to refute that he did not join Tennessee Titans because they played in the same American Football Conference (AFC) South division as his former team Indianapolis Colts.
“Just like everybody thinks that the Titans (didn’t get chosen) because they were in the Colts’ division. Once again, I knew that the Titans were in the AFC South.”
Manning is currently practicing unofficially with the Broncos wide receivers and tight ends and getting to know his new teammates.
The four time Most Valuable Player (MVP) also has a copy of the Broncos playbook and is studying it constantly to learn a new offence.
This is the first time in the quarterback’s entire career that he will play for another team except for Indianapolis Colts and Manning is excited at the opportunity.
Manning will look to get back to full strength before the start of the new 2012-13 season and deliver the same performances that have made him one of the most recognisable faces in the NFL.
“That’s what I’ve always tried to do and, like I said, I have work to do, and that’s why I’m here and haven’t left here since I signed last Tuesday.”
The Broncos will look to do better than last season where they ended the season at 8-8 and reached the divisional rounds after an exciting 29-23 overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Manning calling the shots they have their best chance of
making it back and even going the entire distance.
