Denver Broncos’ Von Miller returned to practice on Wednesday. The rookie linebacker was seen on the field with a cast over his right thumb. Miller had been sidelined for over a week now with a right thumb injury.
Miller underwent a surgery on his injured right thumb. The surgery was successful and saw him back on the field. Miller had sustained a thumb injury while playing at San Diego on Nov. 27. He had torn the ligaments in his right thumb while playing. The injury made him miss the game against the Minnesota Vikings which the Broncos won.
Miller now hopes to be ready for the Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. The Broncos would be hosting the Bears this weekend.
Miller is on the top of NFL rookies with 10.5 sacks this year. He is close to winning the NFL Defensive POY award. He faced one challenge during his injury. San Francisco 49ers rookie Aldon Smith managed an impressive two sacks playing against the St. Louis Rams. The linebacker’s performance against the Rams offensive line enabled him to extend his record to 9.5 sacks this season. Smith is now just one sack behind Miller.
Miller would surely be looking to keep the lead to get hold of the Defensive POY award but more important for him is to lead the Broncos to victory. The Broncos desperately need victories to increase their chances of playing their playoffs. And Miller needs to concentrate upon that.
What remains to be seen is that even if Miller plays this Sunday, would he be able to manage the same past performance with an injured thumb. He is undoubtedly one of the best rushers in the NFL and may not be bothered by the injury.
Also missing in practice for the Broncos were receiver Willis McGahee and left tackle Ryan Clady. McGahee had sustained a knee injury in the fourth quarter of the game against the Minnesota Vikings. Despite missing the practice, he however said that he would be playing this Sunday. On the other hand Clady too missed the practice with a knee injury.
Receiver Eddie Royal too missed practice this Wednesday. Royal suffered from a concussion as he collided with a teammate against the Vikings.
The game against the Vikings proved to be an expensive one for the Broncos as it lead to the injuries of three of their players. However these injurious are not so complicated and they may recover in time for the next game.
