Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas not sad to see the back of QB Tim Tebow - NFL News
Quarterback, Tim Tebow’s trade from the Denver Broncos to New York Jets had saddened many Broncos players including linebacker Von Miller but one person was not too sad at seeing the back of the former Heisman Trophy winner.
Wide receiver, Demaryius Thomas in a radio interview on Wednesday said that he was not sad to see the 24-year-old quarterback leave for the Big Apple and added that he was glad the franchise signed Peyton Manning to take over the signal calling duties.
That statement might be shocking to most fans who remember both Thomas and Tebow combining magnificently in the playoff wildcard game against Pittsburgh Steelers to score one of the most memorable touchdowns of the season.
Both the Steelers and Broncos were tied at 23-23 but on the first play of overtime, Tebow passed the ball to Thomas who made a brilliant catch and rushed towards the end-zone to score the 80-yard touchdown.
Thomas in the interview though said that the touchdown was what fans remember only and they do not see the rest of the games where he never got service from the quarterback.
"I ain't going to say I was sad because the only thing they remember is that pass. You gotta go back and look at the rest of the games. I wasn't getting no balls and you had to make some of these plays where some players were open and he is not making the
throws. I am happy we got Peyton."
He also said that signing Manning was “a business decision" for the franchise.
Tebow took over the starting role in Denver on week 6 of the 2011-12 season with the franchise at 1-4.
The young quarterback led the Broncos to a string of close victories which charged them towards the American Football Conference (AFC) West division title and a playoff berth.
Thomas also said that last season was all about Tebow and Tebow time and that bothered some players in the Denver locker room.
"Everything on ESPN was all about Tim. That bothered some players, too, because they would say, 'Tim Tebow Time.' I felt like it was a team thing. If it wasn't for the defense most of the time, there wouldn't be no supposed 'Tim Tebow Time.' "
With Manning now calling the shots in the Broncos offence for 2012-13 season it remains to be seen how far the four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) will take the Broncos.
