Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas to become Peyton Manning’s current favourite target – NFL News
When the elite quarterback Peyton Manning first arrived in Denver Broncos, wide receiver Eric Decker was to become his most liked target.
Yet, Decker had a change of fortune after he got injured when he tweaked his groin. His absence has provided wide receiver Demaryius Thomas the opportunity to become the veteran's number one target.
And things are looking even better for Thomas as Manning recently came out and praised him for his work on Thursday, August 02, 2012. He said:
"I think Demaryius has had a really good camp. He is a guy that we're going to feature."
Thomas will start his third season in the league this year. Manning explained that Thomas 6-foot-3, 229 pounds is the largest wide receiver he has ever played with.
This is a big compliment for Thomas considering Manning is about to start his 15th season in the league. Manning said of Thomas:
"He's the biggest receiver I've played with since I've been in pro ball, certainly. He has that rare combination of size and speed. So, I look forward just to getting more and more comfortable with him and just kind of growing through this process."
Thomas has previously said that it was really difficult for him to play alongside the only four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) and trying to meet his standards on the field. Yet the comments made by Manning will give some relief to him. Manning said:
"Demaryius, these past two days, has really made some big plays. Done some big things with the ball after the catch, which what we're going to need. You can’t just throw the ball down the field every time.”
Thomas was drafted by Broncos in the first round (22nd overall pick) of the 2010 draft. He was able to start just five games for Broncos in the 2011 season.
He played 11 games last season in which he got four touchdowns while covering 551 yards.
Thomas has a dynamic combination of a strong physique along with fast speed. Playing alongside Manning should be helpful for Thomas in having a breakout season this time.
