Denver Broncos agree to trade QB Tim Tebow to New York Jets - NFL News
No one believed that the announcement by the National Football League (NFL) punishing the New Orleans Saints for their involvement in a bounty scandal would be overtaken by any other piece of news.
However, on a dramatic Wednesday, Tim Tebow delivered something similar to his famous fourth quarter comebacks as he completed a previously unfathomable trade to the New York Jets from the Denver Broncos.
The Jets and Broncos agreed to the deal late on as the Broncos traded their star quarterback and a seventh round draft pick in return for fourth and sixth round picks from the Jets.
The deal would have been announced earlier if not for a small hiccup in negotiations emanating from Tebow’s $ 5 million bonus.
Both franchises though in the end agreed to divide the amount in half to complete the deal.
John Elway, vice president of football operations for the Denver Broncos, praised Tebow for all he had done for the franchise and wished him luck in all his future endeavours.
“Tim Tebow deserves an enormous amount of credit for what he accomplished and how he carried himself during his time with the Broncos. From taking over a 1-4 team and leading it to the playoffs to energizing our fans and this community, Tim left an extraordinary
mark on this organization. His time in Denver will always hold a special place in Broncos history.”
At the end of the 2011-12 season, the Broncos had announced that Tebow will remain their starting quarterback for the new season but with Indianapolis Colts releasing four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) Peyton Manning, Denver had their eyes set on signing
up the veteran quarterback.
Manning’s arrival in Denver put Tebow’s position in jeopardy and the Broncos management were actively trying to trade Tebow to another franchise with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets being front-runners for his services.
The 24-year-old quarterback though chose to move to New York on Wednesday, and a deal was worked out between both franchises.
Tebow had an amazing year with Denver as he delivered what will be remembered as one of the most memorable years in the Broncos history.
The quarterback took over the starting quarterback duties from the out of favour Kyle Orton and completely turned around the franchise’s fortunes with some brilliant last-minute comebacks leading the Broncos to the American Football Conference (AFC) West
division title while also securing a wild card playoff berth.
Now Tebow-Mania has arrived in New York and the quarterback will look to deliver another memorable year to the watching NFL fans.
