Denver Broncos back QB Peyton Manning for fifth MVP award
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has proven in the regular season that he still remains one of the best in the game after returning from rehabilitation that kept him from playing a single game during the 2011/12 campaign.
Picked up by the Denver Broncos in the offseason, Manning lived up to all expectations in his first season with the franchise.
Even though he struggled to get to his best at the start of the season, Manning improved his game significantly after week five to lead the Broncos to an 11-game unbeaten run to close the season.
The quarterback broke multiple franchise records including 400 completions, 4,659 passing yards and boasted a 68.6% completion rate to end the regular season while helping the Broncos to another playoff run.
With such a huge role played by Manning in the Broncos current success it is no surprise to see many of his teammates calling for him to be voted the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) this year.
Speaking with the official Denver Broncos website a number of the veteran quarterback’s teammates have expressed their desire to see their offensive leader grab the prestigious individual award.
Defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson said:
“You have to go with 18 (QB Peyton Manning). My vote’s on 18. He took us to another whole level on this team internal-wise. Not just on the offense. Defence, special teams, everybody’s attention to detail goes up because you have somebody like that at the
helm that wants the ball and that can do stuff when he gets the ball, so it’s always good.”
Manning has helped shaped the Broncos offence into a cohesive and fearsome unit while his arrival has also helped the defence improve even more.
Safety David Bruton said:
“Especially as a secondary, we’re going against a top-tier quarterback every day in practice, so it just prepares us to go against top-tier quarterbacks like Tom Brady.”
It will be no surprise that the views of the Broncos are shared by the rest of the National Football League (NFL) with Manning taking home the MVP award for the fifth time in his career.
