Denver Broncos bring in QB Brock Osweiler with second round pick - NFL News
The Denver Broncos used their second round pick in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) drafts to bring in an understudy quarterback for Peyton Manning.
Denver selected Arizona State quarterback, Brock Osweiler with the 57 overall pick in the second round to provide backup to Peyton Manning and learn from the four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) as he is billed as the future of the franchise.
Coach, John Fox was happy with Osweiler’s arrival to the franchise and told the media on Friday.
"I don't think it's one of those things where Peyton Manning feels threatened by any stretch. All in all, I thought (Osweiler) is what you're looking for in a prototypical quarterback. He's the guy we liked that we think has a bright future in the future."
There are still doubts about how long Manning will continue playing and Denver have made a great move to bring in a young quarterback who Manning can develop.
Osweiler was proud of joining Denver and having a mentor such as Peyton Manning and he said that he cannot wait to start learning under the veteran.
Talking to the Associated Press, the young Arizona quarterback said.
"I could not be any more excited to be going to Denver to learn from Peyton Manning. A lot of quarterbacks might be upset having to sit behind somebody, where I look at it as a tremendous opportunity to learn from one of the best, if not the best to ever
play the game."
Osweiler had a wonderful 2011-12 season as Arizona’s quarterback and passed for 4,036 yards this season.
The youngster had a 63.2% completion rate and threw 26 touchdown passes.
He can get even better after he starts practicing with Peyton Manning. Osweiler will also get tips from Broncos legend and current Vice President of Football Operations, John Elway.
The youngster cannot get any two better players to learn from than Manning and Elway.
Last season Denver ended up with an 8-8 record and qualified for the playoffs. The franchise also became the American Football Conference (AFC) West division champions.
Now with Manning becoming the starter at the franchise, the Broncos are looking straight ahead to the Super Bowl in the 2012-13 season.
