Denver Broncos check up on Peyton Manning work out - NFL News
Denver Broncos are serious about landing Peyton Manning as the team’s coaching staff and management visited North Carolina to see the free agent quarterback throw on Friday.
The Broncos officials took franchise owner Pat Bowlen’s private jet to travel to Durham and watch Manning perform drills under instructions from Duke University coach David Cutcliffe.
Manning is currently being courted by franchises around the National Football League (NFL) to start the latest chapter in his life after being released by the Indianapolis Colts after 14 years with the same team.
Denver, Tennessee and San Francisco are three teams who are the closest to signing Manning after the quarterback refused to join Arizona Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins.
The Broncos delegation led by executive vice president of football operations John Elway and comprising of head coach John Fox, offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, quarterbacks coach Adam Gase, and general manager Brian Xanders watched the veteran make throws
and show that he has recovered completely from the injuries that plagued him this season.
A medical team was also on hand to check up on Manning’s status.
Elway later tweeted that they had an enjoyable visit with the quarterback.
"We enjoyed visiting with Peyton today in N.C. He threw the ball great and looked very comfortable out there."
Adding further he said.
"Watching him throw today was the next step in this important process for our team and Peyton," Elway wrote. "It was a productive visit and went well."
Manning is also in line to meet with a delegation of Tennessee Titans officials later as he looks for a new home for the new season.
The four time Most Valuable Player (MVP) award winner has been on the radar of many franchises since being released by the Colts with the 49ers the latest to express interest in bringing Manning into their roster.
Cutcliffe who conducted the exercises said that Manning has made great progress and is back to his best.
Talking to The Tennessean the coach said.
"It's incredible how much progress he's made in throwing the football.”
Adding further,
I'm not an NFL coach, of course, but I think I know what it takes to complete passes in the NFL, and it's clear that Peyton can make all those throws.”
It seems likely that Manning will start the new season either as a Bronco, Titan or a 49er as these are the only teams currently left in the running.
It is probable that the 35-year old will be looking to sign for a American Football Conference (AFC) West team leaving the Broncos and Titans as the best bet to where he will end up playing in the new season.
