Denver Broncos edge past New York Jets to a 17-13 victory in Week 11 game – NFL Recap
Last minute touch down by Tim Tebow helped Denver Broncos to a 17-13 victory over the New York Jets 17 on Thursday night.
Tebow managed a 20-yard touchdown with just a minute remaining in the game. The Broncos were trailing behind the Jets and it seemed as if Broncos had lost the game when Tebow changed that with just 58 seconds remaining. He dashed his way into the Jets end zone by managing to outsmart Eric Smith and other Jets in his heroic feat. Tebow was the man of the day for the Broncos. He completed 9 of 20 passes and managed 104 yards in the game and helped Broncos score two touchdowns in the final minutes of the game.
"We have a resilient team," Tebow said. "I think it was just a bunch of guys that kept fighting, that had been knocked down a bunch of times and got back up. I'm proud of these guys for their resiliency and determination."
Broncos Head Coach was pleased with Tebow whom he called a competitive player.
The Jets were left in a state of shock. This is the second loss for the Jets in less than four days. Mark Sanchez made a last desperate attempt to move ahead of the Broncos with a pass shot towards the end zone but the last minute of the game had elapsed.
Left guard Matt Slauson scored a touchdown in the third quarter after Broncos running back Powell fumbled, thereby helping Jets to a lead of 10-3. The Broncos struck back as Andre Goodman sneaked a pass from Mark Sanchez to complete a 26 yards touchdown. Sanchez was devastated by the ill-advised pass.
"I shouldn't have thrown it," Sanchez said. "It's an embarrassing play on my part."
Later, a 45-yard field goal by Nick Folks helped the Jets edge past the Broncos with about nine minutes remaining in the game. The Broncos were left trailing behind and got possession of the ball with less than 6 minutes remaining. It was then that Tebow did the job for Broncos.
The Jets suffered a lot due to injuries. The Jets lost Shonn Greene in the closing minutes of the first quarter to a ribs injury. Greene sustained the injury as he took a pass from Mark Sanchez. The New York were already without LaDainian Tomlinson who had sprained his left knee. Also missing in action were wide receiver Jeremy Kerley and tight end Shawn Nelson. Nelson was sick while Kerley had an injured left knee. Brodney Pool also could not make it to the game having sprained his left knee.
Since the arrival of Tim into the team, the Broncos have improved 4-1. Tebow had stepped in as a replacement for Kyle Orton.
