Denver Broncos get sixth consecutive victory with a 17-9 win over Kansas City Chiefs – NFL Recap
Denver Broncos edged out Kansas City Chiefs, thanks to two touchdowns from quarterback Peyton Manning for a 17-9 victory in Week 12 game on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO.
It was Broncos’ sixth win in a row as Manning continued his splendid run of form. The quarterback remained the most influential player on the field throughout the game and explained why the Chiefs were looking to acquire him in the offseason.
Manning completed 22 out of 37 passes for 285 yards and two scores. He also set up the game-winning field goal in the final minutes of the game.
The game also marked 149th career win for Manning. He has now surpassed Broncos current general manager John Elway for the second most number of wins put up by a quarterback.
The defence also played a major role for Broncos as it kept Chiefs offence from scoring a touchdown. According to the Associated Press, Broncos head coach John Fox said:
"Hats off to our defence. We struggled a bit against the run, but they're a very good run team. ... Something we work very hard on is the red area, and holding them to three field goals was a key in the game."
Running back Knowshon Moreno stepped in place of injured running back Willis McGahee and carried the ball 20 times for 85 yards.
Despite giving their best efforts, Chiefs got their eighth consecutive defeat. The offence was unable to score a single touchdown during the game. All the nine points came through three field goals scored by kicker Ryan Succop.
It was a disappointing game for running back Jamaal Charles. Even though Charles ran for 107 yards on 23 carries, he again failed to score a touchdown. His touchdown drought now spans for more than 11 quarters. Giving his views after the game, Charles said:
"We're frustrated every week. Every time we get a loss, it's frustrating. I don't know when it's going to stop, but hopefully we can did deep down in our souls and find a way to get out of this."
Quarterback Brady Quinn was unable to give a better performance and finished the game with a meagre quarterback rating of 21.
Chiefs got off to a great start to the game as they scored two field goals to finish the first quarter 6-0.
However, Broncos soon reduced the lead in the second quarter with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Manning.
Chiefs had the chance to either try for scoring a touchdown or go for a field goal in the third quarter. Crennel went for the field goal and got one, but the decision backfired later as Broncos took the lead later in the quarter with Manning throwing another
touchdown pass to take the score to 14-9.
Broncos sealed the win with a 34-yard field goal from kicker Matt Prater to win the game 17-9.
