Denver Broncos get three games ahead of San Diego Chargers after beating them 30-23 – NFL Week 11 Recap
Denver Broncos got the win that they had desired as they defeated San Diego Chargers by 30-23 in Week 11 game on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver, Colorado.
Broncos (7-3) completed a season sweep against Chargers and are now three games clear at the top of American Football Conference (AFC) West. It was Broncos’ fifth victory in a row.
For Chargers, it was a heartbreaking loss as they are now 4-6 and just one game above Oakland Raiders. They have now lost five of their last six games.
It was a complete performance by Broncos as they commanded both sides of the ball. Quarterback Peyton Manning was astounding as ever as he scored three touchdowns.
Manning completed 25 out of 42 passes for 270 yards. According to the Associated Press, Manning said:
"Everybody's got to have an angle on it. That's not how I see it. We beat a good football team. I kind of throw the records out the window. To score some points, and to settle for some field goals, and you may actually punt, that's part of playing against
a good defence. We'll take the win and run with it."
However, the man who stole the show with his superb performance and spectacular celebration style was linebacker Von Miller who had three sacks and two forced fumbles during the game. Miller is now leading the league for most sacks with 13.
Broncos’ offence managed to give good output despite a strong opposition from Chargers’ defence.
Chargers were able to put pressure on Manning as he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The quarterback also got sacked in the end zone for a safety by Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips.
However, it was another disappointing performance from Chargers running game that let the team down. Running back Ryan Mathews carried the ball 15 times for just 47 rushing yards. Talking after the game, Chargers head coach Norv Turner said:
"We were not able to get the run going, we had a tough time protecting and they covered us down the field. So, the combination of those three things makes it difficult."
It was Chargers who took the lead as safety Eric Weedle returned an interception 23 yards to score a touchdown and finished the first half 7-0.
However, Broncos soon made a comeback as Manning threw the first of his touchdown passes to level the score 7-7.
Broncos then went on to score a field goal and another touchdown to finish the first half with a staggering 17-7 score.
Chargers managed to get back in the game in the second half. Phillips scored a safety, but it was soon followed up by another touchdown pass by Manning to take the score 24-9.
Quarterback Philip Rivers scored a touchdown in the final minute of the third quarter to reduce Broncos lead to 16-24.
The final quarter saw Broncos scoring two more field goals and extend their lead by 14 points. Chargers managed to score a consolation touchdown in the final minutes of the game as Broncos won by 30-23.
