Denver Broncos part ways with GM Brian Xanders - NFL News
Denver Broncos on Monday made a big decision to change their front office setup as general manager, Brian Xanders left the franchise.
The decision came after Xanders met with Broncos vice president of football operations, John Elway and after what Elway described as a “productive” meeting between the two, Xanders decided to part ways with the franchise.
"Brian and I had a very productive conversation earlier today. Although it was an extremely difficult decision, it became clear that it was best for both the Broncos and Brian to part ways.”
Xanders has years of experience working in the National Football League (NFL) but Elway’s arrival two years ago put his position in jeopardy as the Broncos legendary former quarterback took over more and more responsibilities.
With Xanders leaving Elway also added that no replacement for the general manager’s position will be hired in the near future.
He also went on to thank Xanders for his contributions to the franchise during his three years with the team.
"Brian deserves a tremendous amount of credit and recognition for the contributions he made to the Broncos during his four years with the organization. His hard work and dedication played a major role in the recent success of our team, most notably last
season's division title and playoff win."
Xanders joined the Broncos after spending 14 years with the Atlanta Falcons in various capacities. His time at the franchise though is not something many will look back on.
The first draft the former general manager took part in was a complete disaster, however, things improved considerably in the 2010-11 draft as some big names arrived with quarterback, Tim Tebow and wide receivers, Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker.
Last year defensive rookie of the year Von Miller arrived but it is up for discussion how much influence Xanders wielded in those picks.
The Broncos won the American Football Conference (AFC) West division title last season after Tim Tebow led the franchise to some epic comeback wins throughout the regular season.
Elway brought in four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) quarterback, Peyton Manning in the free agency this season and his arrival has led to a huge increase in optimism surrounding the franchise for the upcoming season.
