Denver Broncos wide receiver found dead
According to a report from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office in Colorado, Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead on Monday. Authorities believe Mckinley’s death
was the result of an apparent suicide. McKinley’s body was found at his home in Arapahoe County.
"Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley," Broncos president and CEO Pat Bowlen said. "He was part of the Broncos family and will be greatly missed
by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's family and friends."
Although the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office is continuing the investigation, a report has indicated that McKinley died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers responded
at 3:25 p.m. Monday afternoon, after receiving a report about a possible suicide at McKinley’s residence. Officers then found McKinley body in the master bedroom on the second floor.
"Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room," Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said.
"This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
The 23-year-old McKinley was drafted in the fifth round by the Broncos in 2009 with the 141st overall pick. Prior to that, McKinley had played college football at South Carolina
and set school records with 207 receptions and 2,781 receiving yards.
"I saw him here...he came to the Georgia game," said South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier. "He seemed in good spirits. Great smile like he always had. I don't understand it if it happened
the way they say. It's hard to comprehend. Kenny was certainly one of my favourite all-time players. He was a wonderful guy. It's hard to figure out why this happened. It's a sad day."
