Denver Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri confident Andre Miller will return with the team next season – NBA Update
The Denver Nuggets will re-sign Andre Miller over the summer and the veteran point guard will play with the franchise next season. So believes Nuggets General Manager Masai Ujiri despite Miller’s hints that he might not be interested in staying.
Andre is a Denver native and was pleased at returning to the franchise at the start of the season when he was traded in from the Portland Trail Blazers. He has played a key role for the Nuggets this season, helping them reach the Western Conference playoffs
where they pushed the mighty Los Angeles Lakers to seven games in the first round.
Miller though has been coming off the bench, with Ty Lawson performing splendidly as the starting point guard. Andre has helped the young Lawson come along and will no doubt be pleased with his progress, but being a starter for over a decade in the NBA,
he apparently isn’t too happy as a reserve.
He made some comments in this regard which have pundits convinced that the point guard will leave Denver in the summer when he is a free agent. Masai Ujiri though believes otherwise and the executive, who met Miller recently, seemed pretty confident Miller
would stay.
"I had a great meeting with Andre Miller a couple of days ago and he told us plain and simple, he wants to come back and he wants to play here," Ujiri said. "I think Andre's comments are more he wants to be respected as a veteran, which we feel he has to
be respected as a veteran."
Ujiri has hinted that the veteran, who was the highest paid player on Denver’s roster, is a perfect guide to a team of young talents such as JaVale McGee, Lawson, Arron Afflalo and Danilo Gallinari. He suggested that Andre’s comments were more regarding
financial matters and he would take care of the veteran’s demands.
"I think he means that he's played in the league 13 years and he's been a starter," Ujiri said. "So, I don't want to go into details there, but I think Andre does not want to be disrespected in terms of, I don't think it's his teammates, I think he loved
the role that he played, so I think its contract. And we'll figure it out."
