Denver Nuggets’ Ty Lawson will go to Europe if NBA lockout prolongs – NBA Update
While the National Basketball Association lockout is still at a standstill with no definite answers on the beginning of the 2011-2012 season, the fast increasing list of the payers who are considering their options to play overseas
in not a big surprise anymore.
The news of the NBA players shifting their talents somewhere else has been flashing around since past couple of weeks and another player has officially announced to follow the lead of his fellow stars.
The Denver Nuggets’ point guard Ty Lawson has indicated that he will join the band of the players going to Europe to play basketball if the work stoppage wipes the games of the next season.
“If they say we’re definitely going to be locked out in November, I’m going to go over there until the season starts or for the whole year,” Lawson said.
North Carolina Tar Heels’ former superstar Lawson is keeping playing overseas as an option and will jump in to take the flight if NBA does not make some quick moves to ensure the start of the next season. The 23 year old Ty Lawson
has preferred to make a trip to Italy to continue the action on the court
“Yeah, go over to Italy, chill out for a bit. I haven’t been there before, so it would be a new experience.” Lawson said.
The prolific point guard is going to wait until November to shape his future move and decide about playing in Europe. Lawson stated that no teams have reached him at the moment as he will start looking into his options seriously
if the lockout uncertainty continues.
“Not yet. I feel like they won't approach us until we approach them, with the overseas thing," Lawson said. "I haven't inquired about it to my agents, but it's a very possible thing if it goes into a long lockout."
After a dominating career in the Tar Heels, Lawson was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2009 NBA draft with the 18th overall pick. However the Timberwolves traded Ty to the Denver Nuggets as they already
acquired two point-guards that year. Lawson’s height and constant sprained ankle slipped him down on the draft board however he turned out to be a good player for the Nuggets.
During his second NBA season in the Nuggets uniform, Lawson created a strong impact on the team and averaged 11.7 points and 4.7 assists per game in the regular season to guide his team into the play-offs.
Lawson has the strength of becoming a great player and his decision to play overseas will help him to learn the traits of the basketball on a different platform.
