Denver Nuggets’ Wilson Chandler receives $1.7 million offer from China: NBA Update
Wilson Chandler’s agent Chris Luchey has made it official that the Denver Nuggets superstar has received an offer from a Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) franchise.
According to the disclosure that was made by Chris, Nuggets small forward has an option to make 1.7 million dollars a year in China with one of their teams.
While the news of Wilson Chandlers’ offer from China circulated in the league, the question remains that whether Chandler will avail the opportunity. As per reports, the Chinese Basketball Association is working on to implement two new rules that will reduce the NBA player influx. These rules will also prevent NBA players from leaving midway through the season.
In accordance with those rules of CBA, no team from the league will include an out-clause option in the contracts of the NBA players and the teams will not be authorized to sign more than one NBA player.
On the other hand, the International governing body FIBA has clearly stated that the NBA players can play overseas in its certified events, only if their contracts have an escape option. This will enable the NBA player to come back into the league when the lockout out ends.
Chandler’s agent Chris Luchey, who didn’t mention the name of the team which made an offer to the NBA superstar, stated that parties are still negotiating on the out-clause option.
Considering the while situation, if Wilson Chandler doesn’t get the option of an emergency exit in the contract, it’s highly unlikely that the Denver Nuggets small forward will make a shift. On the other end of the spectrum, it is likely that the lockout will wipe out the whole 2011-12 season and Chandler can avail this option.
Chandler, who was picked by the New York Knicks in the first round of draft in 2007, joined the Denver Nuggets in the middle of the 2010-2011 season as part of a trade involving Carmelo Anthony.
Chandler made a huge impact in his debut game with the Nuggets, scoring 16 points to spearhead his team towards a thrilling victory over the Boston Celtics. Chandler played 21 regular season games in Denver’s uniform during the last season and averaged 12.5 points and 5.0 rebounds.
