Denver Nuggets defeat New Jersey Nets in high scoring affair – NBA Recap
The Denver Nuggets beat the New Jersey Nets in an entertaining encounter at the Pepsi Center, Denver. The Nuggets were always in the ascendency and fought off a late charge by the Nets to seal their win at 123 – 115.
Danilo Gallinari continued his run of good form for the Nuggets with a team high 22 points and 5 assists. Andre Miller started at the point guard position and pulled all the strings in his 12 points, 12 assists performance. Guard Arron Afflalo had 19 points
and so did Corey Brewer who came off the bench to devastating effect. Rudy Fernandez and Al Harrington also got into double figures for Denver.
Jordan Farmar was excellent for the Nets as he came off the bench for a game high 26 points. Deron Williams got his double-double with 16 points and 13 assists. Kris Humphries narrowly missed out on a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Anthony
Morrow also had a good game with 23 points to his name.
The Nets were ahead 8 – 3 early but that wasn’t at all indicative of how the game would progress. In fact, the Nuggets established their dominance before the first quarter was over. Trailing the Nets, they ended the period on a 14 – 5 run that put them ahead
at 35 – 28.
The second quarter saw more of the same, a 12 – 2 run signifying Denver’s dominance. The Nets actually scored a healthy 24 points in the quarter, but the Nuggets were simply on fire, going for 33 points and stretching their lead to 68 – 52 by the time the
teams went into the interval.
The Nets might have hoped for a change of fortunes coming out of the interval, but the Nuggets had other plans. They again had the hot hand from the floor, scoring 32 points in the quarter. New Jersey improved as well, going for 28 points of their own, but
it was hardly enough as they went into the final quarter trailing by a full 20 points; the score 100 -80.
With a 20 point lead, the Nuggets didn’t seem bothered to show up in the final period. They just went through the motions as the Nets put up some big shots, but even they knew it was more damage control then a serious comeback bid at that point. The game
ended with New Jersey restoring some semblance of a contest at 123 – 115.
