Denver Nuggets dominate Sacramento Kings in 122 – 93 win – NBA Recap
The Denver Nuggets were in scintillating form as they took on the Sacramento Kings and decimated them with a 122 – 93 score line. The game at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento never looked like going in the Kings favour as the visiting team piled
on the points from start to finish.
Sacramento coach Keith Smart was left flummoxed after the resounding loss at home court and didn’t know what to make of it after the game.
"That's not what I expected and I'm sure our fans didn't expect that either. Kind of an embarrassing moment for our fans to watch us play that way."
The Nuggets though saw the performance coming. The revamped side has been flying high this season in the NBA and recorded a good win over the New York Knicks just on Saturday. It was that sort of form that had their head coach convinced good things were
set to follow tonight.
"The New York game was just a mental toughness fight of trying to figure out how to win that game," coach George Karl told the Nuggets' official website before the game. "I still don't know exactly how we did it. Our fortitude to stay involved in the game
was pretty incredible stuff.
"There's a good feel right now. The big thing is not to get too happy and give something back like a game in Sacramento, where if we play the right way, we have a good chance of winning."
As has become custom this season, Denver relied on their team strength to attack the Sacramento Kings from all angles, forcing the defence to virtually collapse as they poured on 100+ points.
Danilo Gallinari top scored in the game with 23 points. He had plenty of help though; as many as seven Nuggets players got into double figures. Centre Nene had 16 points, Corey Brewer had 15 coming off the bench and point guard Andre Miller impressed with
a double-double, 15 points and 10 assists.
In a disappointing game, the only bright light for Sacramento was the performance of a couple of the young guns. Talented centre DeMarcus Cousins got a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Rookie guard Jimmer Fredette also got in on the act, scoring
a team high 19 points.
Isiah Thomas came off the bench to give 16 points to Sacramento’ cause.
Denver pressed ahead early, scoring 32 points in the first quarter, although the Kings managed to keep in touch by putting up 26 points of their own. The major damage was done in the second period though as Sacramento only managed 17 points and the Nuggets
pounded them for 34.
Taking a massive lead into the second half at 66 – 43, the Nuggets were confident and never looked bothered. They didn’t have to be worried either as Sacramento failed to get any sort of momentum going, eventually crashing out for the 122 – 93 loss.
