Denver Nuggets edge out Memphis Grizzlies 99-94: NBA Recap
Denver Nuggets edged out Memphis Grizzlies 99-94 after a close contest here at the Pepsi Center on Friday night. Nuggets' oldest and most experienced player Andre Miller scored all of his 18 points in the second half, including
four free throws in the last 10.4 seconds of the game, to squeak out a win.
His coach was all praise for his efforts,
"He is amazing with some of the stuff he does and how he gets it done," Nuggets coach George Karl said. "We don't win this game without Andre Miller, without a question. It was a slow-down, drag; pull teeth, punch, grab, hold,
kind of an old-school basketball game. I think it is a really classy win for us. It is a tough-minded win against a team that I think is going to be very, very successful this year."
Andre Iguodala led the Nuggets with 20 points and dished out 7 assists, he went 8 of 11 from the floor. Danilo Gallinari added 14 points while Ty Lawson chipped in with 13 points for the winning cause.
Rudy g*y scored a game high 21 points and his three pointer attempt to tie the score at the buzzer almost went in. Mike Conley had 14 points while Marc Gasol felled one rebound shy of his double-double as he finished off with 10
points and 9 rebounds.
Both teams took some time to find their rhythm; a Gasol free throw had the Grizzlies up 9-6 and a g*y put back after his own miss made it 11-10. The Nuggets went for a 6 nil spurt to go up 16-11 before the Grizzlies came back,
and trailed just by one at the end of the period.
Memphis were up by 10 points in no time in the second. The Nuggets came back later in the quarter to tie the score on 37 and then continued to press, with a Lawson jump shot at the close of the period put them up 45-41 at halftime.
Both teams kept each other in check with no one piling up a major advantage at any stage. A Tony Allen jump shot early in the second half made it a one point game on 48-47 and the trend continued throughout the period. The score
was tied on 61 later in the period before Wayne Ellington beat the clock as he nailed a three pointer to tie the score on 69 at the end of the period.
The trend continued with the score all square on 87 and 3:29 left on the regulation. Denver pulled ahead by 6 points but the Grizzlies came back to make it a one point game on 94-95 with 53.8 second remaining on the clock. The
rest was all Miller as he finished off the game from the foul line for a 99-94 win.
