Denver Nuggets forward Al Harrington gets revenge on former team
Denver Nuggets forward Al Harrington showed the New York Knicks what they missed out on when they didn't re-sign him this past summer. Harrington, who met his old teammates for the first
time this season, produced 22 points and four rebounds in Denver's 120-118 victory on Tuesday night.
Harrington, who played just 21 minutes off the bench, was happy to get back at his former team. In an interview with the New York Times, the 6'9" forward said, "It was very important to
me. I said the sweetest way to get revenge is a win."
'I just had to move on'
Harrington, a New Jersey native, was upset over the Knicks' decision not to re-sign him as a free agent. However, he said that he does not have much ill will towards his former team.
"I didn't fit the mold so I just had to move on," Harrington told the New York Times. "I don't really have a lot of hate in my heart towards the team."
Harrington said that New York coach Mike D'Antoni never appreciated him in spite of the fact that he appears to be the kind of player that would thrive in the Knicks' system. Harrington,
who can play multiple positions and shoot from three point range, seemed liked a good fit for New York's uptempo game.
In an interview with New York Daily News, Harrington said, "The writing was on the wall. I wasn't his type of player. I know there were some people who didn't want me there, some who did
but the coach didn't."
Harrington, who emerged as a strong contender for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award last season after averaging 17.7 points and 5.6 rebounds, ended up signing a five-year deal with the
Nuggets worth 33.4 million. In 11 games this season, he is averaging 14.5 points and 4.4 rebounds off the bench.
