Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari out for 4 weeks after fracturing thumb - NBA Update
On Monday night Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari left the game with Dallas Mavericks early in the 3rd quarter due to a fractured left hand thumb.
He inflicted the injury while making a block and was pulled from the game shortly afterwards. It has now been confirmed that the injury to the non-shooting hand will keep him off the court for some time now.
This news struck as a blow to the struggling Nuggets who are striving to hang on to their 7th position for the playoffs in the Western Conference. The forward who just returned back from a injury layoff
a weak ago was disappointed at the latest development;
"I don't know how long it's going to be. It's not going to be short. It's a fracture. The doctor told me the fracture takes four weeks to heal. Hopefully I can put something on and play sooner than that. "I tried to play
through but it was getting worse second-by-second," he said. "I didn't know it was broken, but it hurt a lot. It's unbelievable, but got to keep going, keep thinking positive and make this push for the playoffs."
It is expected that he will be missing the action for a minimum of 4 weeks that will mark his absence through the rest of the regular season. Nuggets will have to struggle without one of their hottest offensive player in
that passage.
The 23 year old plays a cardinal role in the team as he is averaging 15.2 points to go with 4.9 boards and 2.6 assists per game in this season. He started 30 of 33 games he played before his injury. His best performance in
the past three games was against Boston Celtics on March 17th as he tallied 20 points and had 5 boards, Nuggets out gunned Greens 98-91.
Nuggets also lost Andre Miller on the same day when Gallinari was injured. Miller had to leave the game after sustaining a right bruised shoulder. However he is expected to return by Monday.
Nuggets are one of the best offensive teams in the league with 103.5 points average and Gallinari has a major contribution in that record.
The forward is a good penetrator and has the capability to knock down jumpers from any part of the court. Losing him means that Nuggets will have a major setback offensively and they can’t afford that. They have been bolstered
by the return of Wilson Chandler but the contest down the stretch for the playoffs will not be honey pie and they will need every bit of effort from their roster. Missing one of their mavericks at this stage can have adverse repercussions.
