Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari out for at least a month - NBA Update
Danilo Gallinari, the Denver Nuggets forward, suffered an ankle sprain on Monday night in the game against Houston Rockets, the game which Nuggets lost by 99-90.
Gallinari who had to pull out of the game in the third quarter was suspected to have suffered a chip fracture, but later on, after having a detailed examination on Tuesday, it was revealed that he had succumbed  a latent injury
which he had suffered in 2008. The injury did not result after he stumbled in the game.
The 23 years old is still adjusting to clutches and the walking boot will remain tied to his left foot for several days. It is understood that it will take at least a month before he gets back into action.
"We need to get him back soon because he's a big part of our team -- he's 6-10, drives to the basket and creates," point guard Ty Lawson said. "So, you know, hopefully he gets well soon."
The news of his recovery was a sigh of relief for Nuggets as he had been playing a phenomenal role for the team.
The Italian forward, who recently signed a four year contract worth around 42 million US dollars has been on song for the Nuggets this season, averaging 17 points per game.
He had started slowly for Nuggets but gradually gathered momentum and along with his 17 per game average, he has grabbed 5.2 rebounds per game. In the last 10 games, the small forward has been scoring at 19 points per game. He
possesses a strong stature with the ability to penetrate into the lane and his absence can seriously hurt the playoffs aims of the Broncos.
"If it can be faster, it's better, but with these kind of things, you want to take your time and have it heal in the right way," Gallinari said. "I don't want to rush it. I want to take care of myself and make sure it heals in
the right way, so I don't have other injuries when I come back."
Ironically, he is the third player for Nuggets who has gone down. Earlier in the season, Timofey Mozgov suffered a serious ankle injury while Arron Afflalo also had multiple injuries to his ankle and toe. To make the matters worse,
star power forward Nene Hilario nursing his left heel.
They Nuggets are scheduled to have a home games this Wednesday against the Dallas Mavericks and will then take on the Golden State Warriors. With so many players out injured, and Corey Brewer out due to the death of his father,
the odds don't seem to be in their favour.
