Denver Nuggets forward Gary Forbes not happy over his national team’s recourses: NBA Update
The Denver Nuggets forward Gary Forbes is not happy with his national team’s resources. Forbes, who is currently playing for his native country Panama in the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship, made these comments in an interview
recently.
Elaborated the issues which are hurting his team, Forbes highlighted some behind the scenes problems which are constantly undermining Panama’s performance at international competitions. According to Forbes, the national basketball
team of Panama is not supported by its country’s national government and hasn’t had a sponsor or any financial assistance for a long time now. Forbes also mentioned the deprived situation of their practicing facilities in the country and the only facility,
which is relatively in a good condition, cannot be used as that facility is government owned.
Another fact that is hurting the Panama’s national side is that the team has only one coach and without any assistant coaches and trainers, it’s pretty hard for their players to excel at international level. However, Forbes expressed
hope for a better future for his national team and said that affiliation with the National Basketball Association (NBA) would be an extremely helpful factor for Panama.
Forbes is a young and energetic and is determined to do well in the upcoming seasons. Forbes played his college basketball with the University of Virginia. He played total 31 games in 2003-2004 and averaged 7.6 points and 4.0 rebounds
per game. In his sophomore year, he played total 29 games and averaged 9.4 points, 4.1 rebounds per game.
However, Gary Forbes gained the real fame in 2007 when he represented his national Panama team in FIBA Americas Championship for the first time in 2007. He was exceptional in that tournament and ended it with an average of 17.8
points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
After representing Panama in 2007, Forbes participated in the NBA’s Pre draft camp in Orlando, Florida in 2008. Although, he was not selected in 2008 draft but his high aspirations and determination to play in the biggest basketball
league in the world landed him into the Denver Nuggets in 2010. Last season, Forbes played total 63 games and averaged 5.2 points and 1.8 rebounds per game for the Nuggets.
