Amidst the lockout uncertainty, while the big names like Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant are still pondering over the best move for their future, other not so high profile names have already decided their next move.
Ty Lawson is one such name.
The Denver Nuggets point guard has decided that he will not be lingering around the current uncertainty surrounding the NBA season. Lawson wants to play and stay match fit. Hence, he will be moving to Lithuania to play competitive
basketball until the lockout ends.
Ty Lawson seems to have had hit the jackpot. Not only has he signed a deal with Lithuanian club Zalgiris Kaunas, he has also negotiated the terms and conditions of the contract in accordance with FIBA directives. According to those
conditions, Zalgiris Kaunas have agreed to let Lawson go back to NBA in case the lockout ends.
Lawson has termed this situation as perfect and believes that this is the best thing that could have happened to him in this lockout phase. What is even better for Lawson is the fact that he will be joining former Denver Nuggets
teammate Sonny Weems; something he is really looking forward to.
The 23 year old point guard is young and opportunistic and he is really looking forward to not only playing in the Lithuanian league, but also going to a new place and exploring a new world.
"It's the best situation for me to go out there," Lawson stated. "Being at home, I'm not saying I'm a lazy person, but I want to be in the gym. And plus, it's a new experience going out to Lithuania, so why not? It was a no-brainer.
And as soon as the lockout ends, I can come right back and be with the Denver Nuggets.
The fact that he can return as and when the lockout ends, was what helped Lawson reach an easy decision regarding the matter. Lawson has said that he plans to go to his new home on August 28.
Lawson had a decent season last time around where he managed an average of 11.7 points per game and 4.7 assists per game. Even more noteworthy are his stats in the 31 games where he started; an average of 14.6 points and 6.7 assists.
He got the opportunity to start after Chauncey Billup’s departure to the New York Knicks.
Ty Lawson has only spent two years in the NBA as of now and going to Lithuania will certainly help him acquire valuable experience, which in turn ought to help him become a better player in the NBA.
