Denver Nuggets looking to sign a contract extension with Ty Lawson – NBA News
The Denver Nuggets are going through an interesting phase in their franchise history, where they are coming off a great season and are looking towards even more success in the coming one.
The Nuggets just welcomed Andre Iguodala to the team with a press conference. The shooting guard was acquired by the Nuggets in a four team trade that landed Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, and former Lakers centre Andrew
Bynum to Philadelphia 76ers.
The Nuggets fully realize the potential of Iguodala, who is also coming off one of his best seasons in the NBA. He got invited to the All Star Game this year and also made it to the U.S team that won gold medal at the London Olympics.
With good things happening for the club, the Nuggets are feeling confident about the future and looking to make some important decisions which will ensure the success of the club. And one of those moves revolves up and coming Nuggets
point guard Ty Lawson.
Lawson is expected to become a free agent next summer, and considering the way he is improving each season, the Nuggets know he will have a lot of buyers lined up for him next summer.
Hence, the Nuggets want to sign him on for the future, giving security and stability to this new team. The Denver Post has reported that General Manager Masai Ujiri is interested in signing Lawson onto a contract extension.
“Ujiri already has said he wants to sign point guard Ty Lawson to a long-term deal, and Lawson told The Denver Post last May that he was excited about that possibility. If Ujiri and team president Josh Kroenke can re-sign their
backcourt that will give Denver a thrilling nucleus going forward, knowing small forwards Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler and center JaVale McGee are already signed for years to come. Meanwhile, power forward Kenneth Faried is entering the second season
of his rookie contract,” reported the Post.
With the Nuggets and Iguodala already talking about a contract extension, the Nuggets will be feeling good about the roster they have compiled and the fact that most of their players are signed on for the foreseeable future.
The Nuggets will be a team to watch out for next season, after a successful 2011-2012 campaign and the addition of Iguodala. They may not be title contenders, but will be right there behind the Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
