Denver Nuggets’ shooting guard J.R. Smith is heading to China in this fall: NBA Update
The Denver Nuggets shooting guard J.R. Smith is heading to China in this fall. A Chinese professional basketball team has approached Smith for playing in their league. His agent Leon Rose has also confirmed regarding Smith’s potential
connections with several Chinese clubs.
Though, no official statement has come from both sides but there seems a certain possibility as J.R. Smith is heading to China during the NBA lockout. He is also an unrestricted agent and seeing the possibility of playing elsewhere
in the world during the work stoppage in the biggest basketball league in the world.
Some sources have also disclosed some facts about the potential deal of J.R Smith. These sources are stating about Smith’s potential deal with Shanxi basketball club which is relatively a good side in the Chinese Basketball Association
(CBA). The potential deal is approximately worth $3 million and for a single season.
After hearing regarding J.R Smith’s potential deal with a Chinese basketball club, several basketball experts have alarmed about some of the worrying new rules of the CBA. According to the new rules, the CBA authorities do not
allow any professional basketball player to leave his respective team during the season. The foreign contractual player has to play the whole season.
However, no news has come yet whether Smith will opt for the opt-out clause or not. The unrestricted agent, Smith was also not happy with his team management particularly with the head coach Karl Smith. Last season, Smith has also
spoken in public as he might leave the Nuggets and join another team in the offseason.
When couple of reporters further asked him about the relationship with his coach, Smith bluntly replayed and said, “Up and down. Pretty much roller-coaster style. When it's going good, it's going great. When it's going bad, it's
going terrible.”
J.R. Smith last played for the Denver Nuggets in 2010-2011 with an average of 9.8 points, 2.00 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. His tremendous basketball skills have always impressed many in the league. He has been playing in
the NBA for almost seven years with huge energy. But before playing in the biggest basketball in the world, Smith proved his talent as an amateur with three high schools.
He initially started playing basketball in Millstone Middle School and later in Steinert High School. His game was extremely perfect during his School days as he decided not to join the University of North Carolina for further
studies. Later, he made himself available for the NBA draft where the New Orleans Hornets drafted him 18th
overall in the 2004 NBA draft.
