Denver Nuggets squeak past Philadelphia 76ers 108-104 in an overtime spine-chiller - NBA Recap
Wednesday night had its share of exciting games.
San Antonio Spurs Vs Orlando Magic was an overtime thriller which ended in the Spurs favour and, in another Over Time nail biter, Denver Nuggets held their nerves in the end to edge past the Philadelphia 76ers 108-104.
After 48 minutes, both teams were head to head at 96 all and therefore the game headed into extra time.
First three minutes of the overtime were intense as neither team was willing to give up. 76ers finally got ahead by 2 points 104-102, however they failed to stretch the lead further and on the other hand, Nuggets rattled a 6-0 crucial run to finish as the
victorious team.
Reserve Andre Miller- former 76ers player, was outstanding and marshalled the Nuggets with his season and a game high 28 points on 12-for-20 from the floor, 8 rebounds and 10 assists, barely missing a triple-double.
"It's always good to win against your former team, but I enjoyed these guys and my time here," said Miller
Coach George Karl too enjoyed Andre’s stint at the court.
"Andre was spectacular tonight," Nuggets coach George Karl said. "He was our best guy down the stretch."
Nene too had a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds while Arron Afflalo pounded 14 on 5 for 11 from inside the arc. Ty Lawson and Al Harrington finished with 13 and 12 points respectively.
Nuggets shot 43-89 from the floor including 7-for-18 from the long range and 68.2% from the free throw line.
Thaddeus Young led the 76ers with 22 points on 11-for-22 from inside the arc and 7 boards whereas Evan Turner achieved a double-double by scoring 20 points and pulling down 11 boards.
Disappointed with the final outcome after putting up a good show, Nick added.
"We just couldn't make shots, We had every opportunity. We had good looks. We just couldn't get it to go in."
Elton Brand accumulated 16 points on 8-for-14 from the floor. Jrue Holiday chipped in with 13 while Andre Iguodala bundled 11 points, forced 10 rebounds and dished out 9 assists.
Philadelphia started the game aggressively and were 9 points ahead by the end of the first frame, however in the next frame the Nuggets outscored them 32-17 to ensure they held the upper hand at the start of second half, ahead by 51-45.
Nuggets maintained the lead throughout the next frame and ended it with a 6 point lead 78-72. Final quarter was the most exciting of all as 76ers came from behind and eliminated the lead to split the game wide open.
Both teams fought hard after that and fittingly the quarter ended with scores levelled at 96 all. In the end, it all came down to 6-0 run that Nuggets rattled in the ending moments of extra time.
