Denver Nuggets take down Golden State Warriors, 106 – 89
Denver Nuggets trounced Golden State Warriors by a 17 point lead (106 – 89) at ORACLE Arena, Oakland to snap a four-game road losing streak with a total of 18,023 fans witnessing the Nuggets’ big win over the Warriors.
Prominent players
Nuggets’ Small forward, Carmelo Anthony "Melo” headed the points chart by scoring a season-high 39 points. He also made 9 rebounds and 5 assists to help the Nuggets to their seventh straight win in the season. Al Harrington added 19 points, 4
assists, and 8 rebounds against his former team. Shooting Guard Arron Afflalo added 15 points, 2 assists, and 9 rebounds for Nuggets.
Monta Ellis, "The Mississippi Bullet" led the Warriors by 20 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Guard Stephen Curry contributed with 17 points, 5 assists, and 7 rebounds. Reggie Williams scored 16 points for Warriors.
Game Story
The Warriors headed the first quarter of the game. With the clock running down (01.2), the Nuggets were leading the session by 23 – 21. Warrior’s Williams scored 2 points of the two free throws at the very last moment and cut the deficit to a
30 – 28 lead.
The Nuggets were back into the track during the second quarter of the game and took a single point lead, 52 – 51.
Nuggets accelerated the game after the first half of the game and extended the lead to 79 – 71 by the end of third quarter. Anthony had 11 points in the third quarter when the Nuggets began to pull away from the Warriors.
Ellis scored 7 points and he was the busiest player for Nuggets during the fourth quarter. Lawson delivered a pair of back-to-back layups and as a result the Warriors had cut Denver's lead from 11 points to just 4 with 6:36 left.
Best shot of the game
Anthony struggled with his shooting early in the game but later on he caught fire and had a career-best 17-for-17 at the free throw line.
Anthony also set a personal record for most free throws without a miss, and this is the third time in four games that he has gotten to the line at least 10 times.
Poor Move of the Game
The key players of Warrior were invisible during the game due to injuries; David Lee (left elbow), Brandan Wright (lower back), Lou Amundson (right index finger), and Ekpe Udoh (left wrist). Due to the absentee of four main players, Warriors’
coach Keith Smart followed a “Twin Towers concept,” providing  Andris Biedrins (7-0 )with an opportunity to play at power forward position and Dan Gadzuric (6-11 )at center. Both of the Players could hardly scored 8 points each. Biedrins also had a foul trouble
in the game.
Quotable
While talking about Point guard Ty Lawson, Denver coach George Karl on Lawson said, "He's a player that probably has earned more time than we're giving him. A lot of teams, he would be playing 30 minutes a game. We do not like playing without
Chauncey, but we were very confident he would play well tonight. His fourth quarter was big for us."
"We defended their pick-and-roll game probably as well as we've done all year. We did some switching, but we just kept Ellis and Curry somewhat in front of us almost all night. The shots they made, most of them were challenged," said Karl.
