Denver Nuggets take revenge; Rout Golden State Warriors 123-84 – NBA Recap
The Denver Nuggets came into Monday’s game with revenge on their mind after the Saturday night loss to the Golden State Warriors. And revenge was what they got, with a 123-84 romp.
Kenneth Faried had a double- double night, scoring 27 points and grabbing 17 rebounds for the Nuggets, who dominated in every department of the game.
The Nuggets started the game scoring the first 10 points to take a 10-0 lead as the Warriors did not score till the 9:15 mark in the first quarter. From there on, it was all Denver as the Warriors never led at any point in the
match and trailed by as many as 41. There were no lead changes and no ties in the match, just Denver leading by different margins.
The Nuggets outscored the Warriors 37-13 in the first quarter and finished the first half leading 65-38. They continued their offensive charge in the second half as well, finishing the game 123-84. The 39 point win for the Nuggets
was the largest of the season and the 6th largest in their franchise history.
Arron Afflalo had 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, while Ty Lawson added 10 points for the Nuggets. Al Harrington, Corey Brewer and JaVale McGee combined to score 36 points from the Nuggets bench. Denver had 7 players in double
figure points with Danilo Gallinari providing 15 points in his return from injury.
Klay Thompson led the Warriors scoring with 17 points and Nate Robinson came off the bench to score 16, including 4 of 6 from beyond the arc.
"They came out like a team that was embarrassed last game on national TV and we came out going through the motions. It was a good ol' fashion beat down. By the time we realized what hit us the game was out of reach" said Warriors
coach Mark Jackson after the game.
The Nuggets shot 54.5% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. They got 24 free throws as compared to only 14 by the Warriors, and converted 18 of those. Golden State shot 36.9% from the field in comparison.
Denver outscored the Warriors 60-27 in rebounds, 70-18 in points within the paint and 32-9 in fast break points. They also had 35 assists as compared to 21 by the Warriors and committed 13 fouls as compared to 26 by the Warriors.
"If you look at any statistic in the game -- rebounding, blocked shots, fast-break points, points in the paint -- we showed no signs of life throughout the game" said Warriors forward David Lee after the game.
Golden State seemed to be somewhere else both physically and mentally, and did not play with the aggression and dominance with which they defeated Denver just this past Saturday.
Denver are at 8th place in the western conference after this win, parallel to the Dallas Mavericks and 1win clear of the charging Phoenix Suns. It will be interesting to see how these three teams play the rest of the
regular season and which two teams are able to make its place in the playoffs.
