Denver Nuggets win 117-103 against the Cleveland Cavaliers
Friday, 28th of January 2011 saw the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers playing host to the Denver Nuggets. Denver Nuggets are in the 7th spot in the Western Conference and a win was necessary keeping in mind that others are closely following
them.
On the other hand, Cleveland Cavaliers are last in the Eastern Conference and have come up with 8 win during the season so far. Things got no better as they lost this match as well and their losing streak extended to 18 games as Denver Nuggets beat them
117-103. The match was hosted by Cleveland Cavaliers at the Quicken Loans Arena but playing home didn’t help them a lot.
Denver Nuggets were the stronger team ahead of the game. Added to this was the Carmelo Anthony, who is in superb form and become ever so important for the Nuggets playing the pivot role. Denver Nuggets were on the offence right from the word go and were
the first to score points.
Denver Nuggets maintained a tight defence which despite the constant brilliant plays of Cleveland Cavaliers managed to stop them. There were several occasions where it looked as if the Cleveland Cavaliers would fall and face an embarrassing defeat again.
However, this didn’t happen and they were able to come up with decent pieces of play which saw them scoring 24 points during the first quarter. But it was Denver Nuggets who led at the end of the first quarter scoring 31 points.
The second quarter was no different from the first quarter as Denver Nuggets dominated and with the strong shooting and passing they managed to stay on top. The confidence and momentum was totally in favour of the Denver Nuggets which enabled them to increase
their shooting percentage as well as they scored more points than the first quarter.
During the course second quarter, Denver Nuggets managed to score 39 points while restricting the Cleveland Cavaliers to 26 points. This meant that the Denver Nuggets had a comfortable lead of 70-50 at the end of the second quarter.
After creating quite a gap between themselves and the Cavs, Denver made some changes. This factor coupled with a change in strategy saw Cleveland Cavaliers starting to construct decent pieces of play which gave them more scoring chances.
The change in roster resulted in the Denver Nuggets not being so effective on the offence and their defence was weak at times. During the course of the quarter, Denver Nuggets scored 23 points while Cleveland Cavaliers scored 33 points. The scores at the
end of the quarter showed that the Nuggets led 93-83.
The final quarter saw both teams come up with a good defence which allowed little space to the opposing team. The defence was able to cope with the pressure. Though they were some open some open shots missed by the both sides.
The quarter was very interesting to watch both teams go on the offence and the defence managing to come out on top every time. The quarter ended with Denver Nuggets scoring 24 points while Cleveland Cavaliers scored 20 points. In the end, it was Denver Nuggets
who won the match 117-103.
During the course of the match Denver Nuggets scored 10 three pointers while Cleveland Cavaliers scored 8 three pointers. Carmelo Anthony of Denver Nuggets was the top scorer of the match with his 33 points. J.J. Hickson had 24 points and 14 rebounds for
