Denver considering bidding for 2022 Olympics
Denver has recently decided that it will take up the option of bidding for the 2022 Olympic Games.
For this purpose, prominent individuals from both the public as well as the private sector of the state are going to conduct meetings that will explore the possibility of making a bid to host the Olympic Games. The bid will be submitted to the United States
Olympic Committee.
The two individuals that are responsible for the formation of the committee are Governor John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. The committee will be exploring several areas in order to reach the conclusion that whether a bid can be successful
or not. These explorative areas include financial aspects, the benefits that may arise out of hosting the Olympic Games, the costs involved in order to make a successful bid among others.
The committee that has been setup up to analyze the making of the bid for the Olympics is composed of a total of 22 members. The head of the committee is decided to be Don Elliman, who is the executive director of the Charles C. Gates Center for Regenerative
Medicine & Stem Cell Biology. Elliman provides her services to the medical school of the University of Colorado. On the other hand, the chief executive of the Colorado Health Foundation, Anne Warhover, will also be heading the committee.
Gov. Hickenlooper expressed himself in the following statements regarding the matter at hand, “We've asked this exploratory committee to explore all issues relevant to Denver potentially submitting a bid to the USOC. Those issues include making certain any
bid would be financially sound and will help economic growth in the state. We would also want to find ways to showcase Colorado as the healthiest state in the nation for work and play no matter of a bid's outcome.”
This time around, the Olympic Games will find itself in London, the city which will be hosting the Games for the third time in its history. The first time that the Games came to the capital of England was in the year 1908 while the second time it was in
1948.
