Departing Olympique de Lyonnais coach Claude Puel has two offers – Ligue 1 news
Reports in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 suggest that current Olympique de Lyonnais coach, Claude Puel has already received two coaching offers. The Frenchman is coming near to the end of his tenure at the Rhone club following three trophy-less seasons with Les Gones.
Reports suggest that former Lyon player; Remi Garde is expected to be named the new coach of Olympique de Lyonnais in the coming days. With Lyon already having identified a replacement, Claude Puel might not be without a club for long.
Reports suggest that La Liga side, Athletic Bilbao are monitoring Puel’s situation at the Stade Gerland. With the presidential elections of the Basque club about to start, President http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-c13609 Garcia Macua is looking to bring in the former AS Monaco coach to the San Mames. Reports further indicate that Los Leones have already contacted Claude Puel’s representatives and the Frenchman himself is impressed by Bilbao’s future plans especially as the club will be playing in the Europa League next season.
If Claude Puel takes up the coaching position at Bilbao, he will be allowed to bring his assistant http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrick-c29254 Collot but the rest of the coaching staff will be hired by the club. Though the pursuit of Puel remains subject to the results of the club’s elections going the current president’s way, the club direction sees Puel as a perfect man to replace current coach Joaquin Caparros who guided Los Leones to sixth place in the 2010/2011 La Liga season. Reports also suggest that an unnamed English Premier League club is also interested in the services of Claude Puel.
Claude Puel’s first coaching stint came in 1999 when he was made the coach of AS Monaco. In his first season with the Monegasque club, Puel won the Ligue 1. However, his contract was not renewed and the former AS Monaco player left the club in 2001 to join Lille where he spent six consecutive seasons. As a player, Puel represented AS Monaco from 1979 to 1996 and made 488 appearances. He won the Ligue 1 twice with the club.
Things never worked out too well for Puel at Lyon but a move away from the Stade Gerland could be a good point in the 49-year-old’s managerial career. Though Puel was able to guide Lyon to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League in 2010 he was never able to win any silverware at the Rhone club. However a move away from Lyon might change things for Puel who is one of the youngest coaches to ever lift the Championnat.
