  1. On this equation: Y = X + 1

    X is the independent one, it doesn't depend on the value of Y.

    Y is dependent on the value of X.

    If X = 1 then Y = 2, but if X = 2 then Y = 3.

    Y depends on the value we assign to X.


  2. Independent variable are ones under your control. Dependent variables result from the independent variables. For example, you place some people in a hot room and some in a cold one. (Independent variable). The ones in the hot room sweat more than the ones in the cold room (Dependent variable).
