i am not sure exactly what you are asking, but the period of oscialltion depends on the mass of the object and the stiffness of the spring; in this case period is the dependent variable, and is dependent on the mass and the stiffness

the independent is the variable that YOU control.

the dependent is the variable that is effected by the independent variable.

if you are controlling the amount of mass...

then the time is the dependent.
