My husband is diagnosed with depression and is being recalled to active duty, how can he fight it? plus he has physical conditions that restricts him to carry anything more than 20 pounds. He cannot even wear a complete battle rattle gear. What can he do to prove that he is not capable of this?

  1. he needs to go to the closest va hospital and get all that documented then take that paper work to his unit but don't be surprised if they make him go to the doctors on base as well if they clear him at the base hospital then he has no chance to get out of it that's what happens when you sign the dotted line

  2. wouldn't he get a physical before he ships out?

  3. Only the medical officer can help here, however it he is incapable of passing a basic fitness test I'm surprised his buddies want him out there.

  4. His physical will prove everything. He needs to provide all medical records generated after his separation.

  5. in his phisical

  6. He needs to have ALL of his medical records with him when he reports for duty on whatever date that is. It's not an option to NOT show up. They will go thru his medical info, see that he's not physically and/or mentally able to serve and they'll release him from his obligation.

  7. It's going to be really, really hard to fight deployment. I've been in the Army for 2 and a half years and the only way I've seen somebody get out of a deployment is by becoming pregnant, or getting severely injured during Pre-MOB. Have your husband show proof that he is disabled and MAYBE something will happen.

  8. He needs a profile (like a sick slip) omitting certain activities and restricting his duties to near and around garrision.

The profile gives guidance to his command.  For them to go against the profile, or medical orders, they increase the risk to the soldier and of course themselves ie. career is over if something were to happen.

Most times, the profile is solid enough to deter deployment.
