Question:

Depo Provera and periods. Does this sound normal?

I just started depo last month. I did my homework on it, and expected an irregular period. Before the depo, I had a period about every third week, and it lasted about four days. I cramped super, super bad the first day - to the point where I wouldn't get out of bed and would throw up, but then the rest of my period, I was a normal person. After the depo shot, I got my period three weeks late. I bled for the first five days, and for the next week and a half, and still in the present, I'm still excreting parts of the lining [it looks tissue-ey], and leftover, brown, rotten, blood.

Does this sound similar to any experiences with depo you've had? I know that every girl reacts different to the contraceptive, but does it at all sound remotely normal?

  1. "Normal" for depo can be exactly what you are going through.  You could bleed for MONTHS on depo.

Please really research this shot, you should look into another alternative.

    Read the reviews here.

A majority of women on this shot suffer some horrible side affects and health issues.

  2. Side effects can differ from woman to woman, but yes it can cause some disturbance in your hormonal levels. Depo can cause irregular and prolonged periods especially first few months. JUST remember that Depo will not protect you from STIs. Since you guys care about each others by taking things slow, why not using a condom (when ready) instead of putting yourself through that trouble of prolonged bleeding?

Suggest that if problem persist, you should see your Dr.

  3. If your period was messed up before, with depo you will only mess it up even more...

you did your homework? Try doing more homework, research on this shot and you will find a good number of reasons to not get your next shot.

Among all the BC methods,Depo is by far the worst.

  4. Sounds very similar to what i'm going through.  that was the first month this is the second month i would be expecting my period but its more like spotting,,just not blood.  it's like the brown discharge you decribed but to tell you the truth if your not sexually active i would'nt worry about getting the shot.  i'm stopping because i've researched the depo shot and i haven't heard anything good!!!    i would try and find another form of birth control.  i certainly am.
