They say you are suppose to get the shot within five days of having your period for it to work properly, i guess? Is that true? and I got mine about two and a half weeks after my period...would that change the effectiveness of the shot??? And How long would it take to work properly? WOuld it delay my period

  1. i dont want to scare you but after a year on depo provera i became pregnant with my 4th child !...whilst on it i had no periods at all which i believe is the case in everone...why did they give you the shot if it were 2 and a half weeks after your period and it wasnt right.

  2. talk to your gyn about your specific concerns.

  3. Depo shots actually start to work from the day after they give you the shot. They just recommend you get it five days from your period to stop the ovulation from occurring. I would use a backup form of BC for about 2 weeks, just to be sure. As for your period, Depo causes you to have lighter and lighter periods, till you don't have one at all. I have been on the shot for 5 years now, due to migraines it is the only BC I can use. I haven't had a period in 5 years. It actually is a great thing and hubby loves it also (he can get s*x anytime of the month). Just remember to get your shots on time, preferably a week before the due date and you shouldn't have any problems.

  4. when i was on it i didn't have a period at all, after my last shot it took nearly a year for my period to come back and it was very irregular for 6 months after that, i would never have it again, i plan on having the implant after my baby is born
