Question:

Depo Shot Baby Paranoia, anyone?

I tried posting this a bit ago but it must not have worked. If it did, I'm sorry for repeating myself.

I've been on it for about 2 years and I understand that it can create pregnancy-like symptoms. Not to mention, I'm one of those (lucky?) ones that doesn't get a period except for some occasional spotting. So, if I get pregnant, I can't really rely on the missed period, can I?

I'd like to know if any of you have the same scenerio going on? I mean, do you ever get nervous about those symptoms...

Like that maybe, just maybe, that slight nausea and peircing headache could be something other than a virus? Or that extra chub on your tummy seems bigger today than yesterday? Maybe you're a little moodier?

I doubt I'm pregnant. This happens occasionally, where we "slipped up" one night and now I'm caught in a hypocondriac's nightmare where every teeny thing that goes on with my body might be a swimmer that made it past the minefeild into enemy territory... lol I apparently suck at metaphors.

Do any of you that have this situation going on sometimes, though you don't WANT to get pregnant yet (or else why would we be on the shot!) have this slight paranoia and almost kind of hope you possibly could be?

Did I make ANY sense?

Do share! I'd like to know I'm not the only one!

And please, don't be jerks. Please and thanks.

  1. I went on this shot several years ago, and after three courses I had to stop.

I experienced NUMEROUS symptoms, the worst of which for me was dramatic weight gain. (Think literally gaining weight overnight)

After being on this shot, I also developed Hashimoto's Thyroiditis - a chronic thyroid illness which causes hypo-thyroidism. I am not the only one...it seems to be a rather common occurance.

Please check out this site...it provides a lot of information on the things that can go wrong on this BC method.

  2. POOR THING.. lol.. I went through that alot!!. I would get scared that I was preggo but secretly get upset when my period came or the HPT turned out to be negative.

You have been on the shot for a long time. I really wouldn't worry to much about being preggo.

They say that as soon as you find out your preggo to stop all BC.

The easiet way to find out would to go get a blood test from your doctor. She will probably laugh as well at this.

    It happens. No biggy...

Yes you make sense... I do like that metaphor: swimmer that made it past the minefield into enemy territory.

    Thats just cute.

Really don't worry to much.. It could even be your worry.. Giving you that little extra tummy bump.. or that splitting headache...

    Good Luck :)

  3. Im on depo too, it does give you a few symptoms, I also don't have my period but sometimes I still bloat around the time of the month, I have cravings sometimes like a pregger woman etc. its really not likely your pregnant unless you missed a few weeks of the shot or got it a little later than you were supposed to.. I never freak out but yeah sometimes you get that thing in the back of your head lol... don't worry though its the most effective birth control other than getting your tubes tied.. I am so happy just to not have a period lol it makes me moody the first 2 weeks after every single shot but its worth it :0)

I have heard some antibiotics can reduce the power of the "minefeild" haha... but Idk your fine I bet.  Plus after being on it 2 yrs non-stop it should take a while to get pregnant even when you stop! Fun times.
